‘HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Lawmakers in Harrisburg honored a local doctor for his actions at Former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler in July.

Dr. Jim Sweetland, a retired emergency room physician from Treasure Lake in Dubois, performed CPR on one of the victims of the shooting.

Sen. Cris Dush (R-25), Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Clinton/Union), Rep. Mike Armanini (R-Clearfield/Elk) and several others thanked him for his courageous efforts and actions at a press conference Tuesday.

Sweetland said that at the rally he heard a woman cry for help after the shots were fired. He leaped into action and ran to an injured man. That man was Corey Comperatore, the volunteer firefighter who died while shielding his family from bullets. Sweetland performed chest compressions on Comperatore until he was relieved by a trooper.

“We all have good reason to be proud of Doc Sweeten and, he deserves, the recognition from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Instead of, ducking and running, he realized where the rounds were heading, and he ran towards where those rounds were heading,” Dush said.

Sweetland shared a message during Tuesday’s ceremony, asking everyone to talk to each other in a loving manner despite potentially differing political beliefs.’
